Wine and windy roads 8 day Tour
Heading Northeast out of Wellington within 40 km we are tackling the sinuous Rimutaka
Hill road before descending into the Wairarapa wine district. We will be over-nighting in or near classic old Martinborough and her famous wineries. Stunning rural back roads lead us north to the Hawke Bay and Art Deco Napier over the next two days before we head for the famous Lake Taupo in the central North Island. Volcanic and snow clad Mount Ruapehu provides the next overnight stop with some spectacular scenery and exciting roads enroute. Historical Wanganui at the end of the Parapara road is the next stop before heading to Palmerton North via routes less travelled. The final day sees us back in Wellington after interesting stops along the way for the ladies and the gentlemen in our party.
Mountains and Lakes 8 day Tour
This is a more direct trip north from Wellington , again via the Wairarapa but arriving after two days of exciting driving and hospitable evenings in world famous Rotorua. Cross country on flowing rural roads after a free day in Rotorua finds us at Waitomo and the Glow worm caves. From here we plunge south, often on rural roads, to New Plymouth and Mount Taranaki or Mount Egmont as it was once called. Back roads will take us to Hawera and the most amazing private museum in the country and then on to Wanganui and with luck some amazing old road tunnels.
Out East
This 8 day adventure takes us directly to Napier, the Art Deco centre of New Zealand (It was flattened by an earthquake in 1931 and rebuilt in the art Deco style). We will find high roads, windy roads and fast roads and wind farms along the way. The next day an amazing highway takes us north the next day to Gisborne over night. From there the next two days are spent driving the sparsely populated and incredibly scenic East Cape to finish in the Bay of plenty. Bring your sun block and swimming gear! This time we arrive in Rotorua from the east via beautiful lake side roads (which also offer eclectic roadside cafes). A free day in Rotorua precedes the start of our journey home via Taupo and Mt Ruapehu overnight. Once off the mountain we wind our way south through the Gumboot and capital of the world and the Carrot capital of New Zealand and road called Vinegar Hill to finish in Wellington that evening.
