Mazda MX-5 convertibles are a great drivers car for two, which you already know or you would not have got this far.
Our tours include the rental of your late model Mazda NC or NB MX-5 or Miata sports car, accommodation, most dinners, all breakfasts, all airport transfers, GPS and a pre-paid cellphone are all included in the cost. Tour groups are kept to a maximum of nine guest cars. You will experience fantastic roads, world class scenery, the company of like-minded MX5sports car enthusiasts and the best way to experience New Zealand. But what about touring an MX-5 in another country? On trips abroad we had often thought that it would be great to tour in another country in an MX-5, but even if we found one for hire, how would we squeeze all our luggage and purchases into such a tiny boot. With MX-5 Touring we carry your luggage in our dedicated service vehicle each day. And we don't care how much you bring (although the airlines do have a view on this!) and we don't care how much you buy along the way. Our service vehicle leaves the hotel with your luggage in the morning and your luggage will be waiting for you at the next hotel that night. All you need to take in the car is what you would take for a day's outing at home, plus of course the camera.
The other real issue when touring in another country is finding the roads or the places or the people the locals know about, so inevitably we reluctantly follow the well trodden tourist routes. On occasion we chanced our arm with the GPS which insists that you either stay on a motorway or it leads to an impossible goat track to nowhere.....Because it is ‘shorter". And if you get lost who do I call in a strange country? With MX-5 tours each day your escort will brief you over breakfast about the planned route and expected highlights along the way. You will receive the day's map and any needed written instructions. Of course the GPS in your MX-5 will also know where you are going and will talk to you along the way. And at any time you can use the pre paid phone or CB radio we give you to call your escort or any of the other cars!
A typical day
We leave the hotel together after breakfast and head out on the day's journey. Before we leave stops for points of interest, coffee breaks, lunch etc will all be planned and points of interest explained. Of course you can stop any where you choose along the way or you can stay with the group, that's your choice. You will know where we will be stopping for lunch and you will know where we are staying that night, and how to get there. The daily distances will not be excessive and in some cases you will have a choice of route depending upon your preferences. We will have our evening, meal together and share our experiences of the day. This is a great time to recall and talk about a fantastic days driving and share in each other' experience. On some tours you will have a free day in a tourist oriented region and on other tours you will be driving every day on incredible roads to far flung and isolated parts of New Zealand.
